•It is evident that honesty is regaining its place in politics, with the results of the presidential election. The results depicted clearly where each candidate won or fell down. The winner, Michael D Higgins, best represents what the role of president is and should be.
During the presidential election campaign, there were candidates who completely forgot what they were running for, using "cheap" methods and "cover" stories in an attempt to get the voters' sympathy.
Whereas the clear winner, namely Mr Higgins, cut out the "drama" and remained focused on why he was running for president and why he should be voted in as president. As Jerzy Buzek states: "The themes of his campaign -- inclusion, ideas and transformation -- are particularly apt to Ireland's current situation", and this echoed throughout his campaign from start to finish.
