An ugly take on a beautiful play
Sir -- I read Emer O'Kelly's critique of McDonagh's Beauty Queen of Leenane in the Sunday Independent, May 15.
It is clear the writer has a deep-set antipathy towards this play and her summation is damning of the production, though not of the cast.
Ms O'Kelly indicates her utter dislike of the premise that a household can be caught in a 1950s time warp while struggling in the 1980s. I do not accept her view that families cannot have well-kept secrets or that there are/were Mags in this world.
