An alternative solution to crisis
THE solution to the Irish/ euro/EU institutional crisis is clear. In reparation for the violation of both our democracy and our sovereignty in the Nice Treaty debacle, the EU should now donate (as opposed to lend) sufficient funds to secure what remains of our banking system and to adequately fund our Exchequer.
As an alternative, Ireland can allow the collapse of the eurozone and the demise of the EU. Either way, honour will be satisfied.
Of course, it is a little difficult for any of the major parties to lead this strategy, seeing as they were all complicit in the infamous “you got it wrong, so try again” referendum; this would suggest that all TDs implicated in that exercise in shamocracy should resign immediately and make way for a new generation of representatives unencumbered by such a credibility deficit.
