•In his interview, while releasing the outline of the coming Budget, Finance Minister Michael Noonan stated: "I don't want people saying on December 7 'this was very unfair'."

Is the minister having a laugh? How can he expect such a greeting for a Budget that will raise taxes universally, regardless of ability to pay, cut vital services and supports and all the while leaving taxes on high-end income and wealth as they are?

The tax system here, which grossly favours those with wealth and large incomes, is neither justifiable nor sustainable at any time, but in our present circumstances it is nothing less than a scandal.
