Alex Higgins showed kindness

Sir -- As an Irish doctor domiciled in England I recall the caring and compassionate side of the late Alex "Hurricane" Higgins. At the Curragh racetrack an agent from Cork was discussing with Higgins about performing an exhibition match in Cork and negotiating a price. A spectator interrupted him and asked Alex to sign his disabled son's race card.

Not only did Alex sign the card but went to where the boy was sitting and chatted with him for 15-20 minutes before returning to fix the price for the Cork match.
