Airbrushing the past doesn't make it disappear

•There have been comments regarding the air-brushing of the election posters of some of the presidential candidates, to make them appear younger, particularly Mary Davis.

Surely this is innocent enough when we compare it to the 'air-brushing' and softening, by so many commentators, of Martin McGuinness's violent path into democratic politics.

Mr McGuinness has been compared to Wolfe Tone, Padraic Pearse and Nelson Mandela, but none of these comparisons stand up.
