After the crash

•Founding president of the University of Limerick, Ed Walsh, believes that former Taoisigh Bertie Ahern and Brian Cowen behaved like "intoxicated joyriders" in managing the economy.
There is no doubt that they have been responsible for a spectacular crash; unlike delinquent car thieves they cannot use the excuse of being drunk at the wheel.
Despite the heartbreak these little thugs have brought to families, the scale of the damage done has not, to date, risen to tens of billions. While quite rightly several "death riders", as I prefer to call them, have ended up behind bars, those responsible for driving the economy over a cliff have not been asked to account for their actions.
