ACA was wrong on Teagasc pay

The presentation by the Agricultural Consultants' Association (ACA) of Teagasc advisory salaries in the last edition of the 'Farming Independent' is factually incorrect. All the front-line advisers working in the Advisory Area Units are on either Grade 1 or Grade 2 salaries. The basic Grade 1 salary starts at €35,254, while the top of the Grade 2 salary is €68,262. The analysis carried out by ISME on behalf of the ACA, which said that advisers earned salaries of €104,000, is factually incorrect.

The hourly rate presented by the ACA is based on working just 1,200 hours.

Advisers work, at a minimum, 50pc more hours than this. Teagasc advisers are employed for over 1,800 hours in the year, and the hourly rate for advisers is between €20 and €40, depending on the grade. For the ACA to say that advisers earn €86.60 per hour is completely inaccurate.
