Abuse horrors ignored by most

As a survivor of child sexual abuse in Ireland in the 1960s, I read John Cooney's article on Cardinal Brady (Irish Independent, April 5) with great disappointment.
Mr Cooney never fails to dip his pen in the stale acid of vengefulness, having little regard for the real truth.
In particular, in his last paragraph he writes -- knowing it to be problematic -- that the cardinal could have prevented the late Fr Brendan Smyth from going on to abuse hundreds of more children, had the cardinal reported the matter to the gardai.
