A tough call
• I was astonished to read that a judge had ordered a "stay" on ComReg's efforts to stop exploitation, particularly of children, by a small handful of mobile-phone operators who run so-called "subscription services".
There is hardly a person in the country who has not had money removed from their call credit, having innocently replied to an ad offering the "chance to win a prize".
The solution to this problem is to require that an entity must have a signed, written agreement with a customer before accessing that customer's account and removing their hard-earned cash, as happens with a direct debt arrangement.
