A time for leadership, courage, patriotism
WE all know that Ireland is in a state of economic emergency. We have an unsustainable structural deficit of €20bn per annum. Our choices are difficult but clear: fix the deficit over a reasonable period (about four years) or lose our economic sovereignty.
I think the vast majority of people in this country agree that reducing the deficit ourselves over a four-year period is far preferable to surrendering our economic sovereignty to an outside entity such as the IMF or the EU.
This is a time for leadership, courage and patriotism. It is not a time for petty party-political or personalised politics; it is not a time for constantly moaning about and analysing the reasons why we find ourselves in this difficult position.
