A sorry State

• After "the considered judgment of the highly qualified and independent international experts, who unequivocally backed the Mater site" (John B Reid, Letters, February 25) and "design work . . . creating a hospital on this site for over 20 years" (Roger Tegart, Letters, February 25) we have ended up with what Roger Tegart calls "an imperfect hospital on an imperfect site".

We have ended up with much worse. We have ended up with a proposed building and a site that could not even get through the officially appointed regulator's guidelines.

It's no wonder this country is broke.
