A 'small group of talent' ruined us

The letter from Dr Maeve White on the issue of the democratically elected representatives of this country highlights the contempt of so many people for the democratic institutions that we have inherited from our forebears. She tells us that we need only "45 or 50 talented people in the Dail" and declares an election to be "no solution" to our problems.
Does she not realise that not holding elections is what characterises dictatorships?
Does she not realise that it was just such a small number of "talented" people who caused the problems from which this country now suffers? That was achieved by a small number of this country's most influential citizens around the cabinet table and by its most powerful vested interests on the boards and management of banks, building societies, and so on.
