Sir -- I have to write and commend Brendan O'Connor on his very frank and brilliantly written piece about the birth of his little girl Mary ('A Prayer For My Daughter', Sunday Independent, September 12, 2010). I have never written to a paper before, but I was so touched by his story I felt I had to write. His sheer honesty about how he felt when he was told his beautiful baby had Down Syndrome. Mary is a very lucky little girl to have such love and a secure family. I wish them well for the years ahead and I am sure they are an inspiration to other families in their situation.
