A 'heads-up' for cyclists on roads

YOUR piece on returning to cycling was interesting, although the childish admonition to always wear a helmet only provides one more excuse for Europe's fattest race to not get on a bike.

Tellingly, you listed helmets as the very first item before reminding people of the legal requirements and common-sense measures of having lights at night or stopping on red.

Unfortunately, helmets do not confer invincibility and to be a safe cyclist using your head is a lot more important than wrapping it in polystyrene.
