A brave insight

Sir -- Reading Aine O'Connor's Smug Married column last Sunday, I expected her usual article -- a comfortable insight arising from her domestic experiences.
What I read was insightful, but this time it was a perfectly described account of the misery of depression. I still only tell close family and friends about my experience of this blackest dog. But, thanks to brave people like Aine, and recently Marian Keyes, some day we will no longer think that 'depressed' is another word for crazy.
It's not about cheering up and it's not about recognising how lucky you are to have your health/a job/a lovely family etc. The first time it happened, I remember wondering frantically what was happening to me; it was the most frightening time of my life.
