A bad deal

•Can anybody out there explain to me why the so-called Croke Park agreement negotiated between the last government and the public sector unions continues to be declared untouchable by the current Government?
There was never any justification for the Fianna Fail-led government to bestow such a position of added privilege to an already well-cosseted group in our society. To face into balancing the public books with no recourse to trimming salaries, pension benefits or numbers employed in the public service in this extreme state of economic emergency is nothing short of wanton contempt for the rest of the population of this country.
There is utterly no point in a government enjoying such a sweeping majority in Dail Eireann, if it is too worried about facing down special interest groups.
