1916 treasures

• I refer to Robin Heaney's fears concerning the future of Moore Street on foot of the Dail debate on the issue (Irish Independent, May 25).

Though the concern is understandable it is important to note that the government amendment to the 1916 heroes' relatives motion that was carried, places on the public record the fact that "Dail Eireann welcomes the Minister's (Jimmy Deenihan) assurance that the National Monument is fully protected under the Act".

This is very important since 60 TDs from all opposition parties, groups and Independents supported the relatives' motion and the Labour Party is, of course, already on public record as supporting that position.
