Summer has arrived and salad days are here. Healthy living, or at least that's what one would think. But nothing, it appears, is sacred.
Today we learn that a packaged lunch-time pasta or chicken salad from some of our better known supermarket chains can contain more calories than a Big Mac or a Whopper burger from various fast food outlets, so often held up as the epitome of junk food.
Apart from the worrying figures for weight conscious people, the so-called 'healthy option' can contain three-quarters of the maximum daily recommended salt allowance, according to an Irish Independent survey.
