Well done, Trap

The award of the Philips Manager of the Year Award to Irish soccer team manager Giovanni Trapattoni was well-deserved.

After leading the Boys in Green to the finals of a major international championship for the first time in a decade the septuagenarian Italian has lifted our spirits at a time when we are clouded by economic gloom.

In winning the award, Trap beat off some formidable completion, including Dublin Gaelic football manager Pat Gilroy, who led the Dubs to the promised land of winning the Sam Maguire, their first All-Ireland victory in 16 years; Kilkenny hurling manager Brian Cody, who has delivered eight All-Ireland hurling championships for the Black Cats; and Joe Schmidt, whose Leinster side came back from the dead at half-time to snatch rugby's Heineken Cup.
