US presidential visits to Ireland seem to be a bit like the mythical No 19 bus: you spend years waiting for one and then two of them come along together.
Fresh from his triumphant visit to Ireland last May, US President Barack Obama has promised to visit the "Auld Sod" again -- if he is re-elected in November.
While it is easy to be cynical about US presidential visits to this country, Taoiseach Enda Kenny was surely right to extend a second invitation to President Obama. Not alone is Offaly's finest wildly popular in this country, Ireland benefits disproportionately from such occasions. The sight of President Obama telling the wildly cheering crowd in College Green "is feidir linn" last May generated the sort of positive publicity that Ireland couldn't buy.
