Unemployment a national tragedy

IT has been said that unemployment is a cloak with a hidden dagger. The shocking figure of 452,500 signing on shows how deep that dagger now cuts at the very heart of our society.
Statistics have an insidious way of anaesthetising us from the hidden struggles of the hundreds of thousands struggling to keep roofs over their heads, and feed families.
Social Protection Minister Eamon O Cuiv's comment that it was worth noting that the figures rose more slowly in July than in June will be cold comfort.
