Under cover of darkness

The decision to release convicted sex offender and wealthy businessman Anthony Lyons from prison shortly after midnight was unusual, to say the least.

Unless the prisoner is potentially at risk when he is set free, releases will normally take place in daylight after the offender has had his or her breakfast behind bars.

But Lyons was allowed to sneak out of Wheatfield Prison at 12.15am yesterday, when most prying journalists were finished work.
