Unacceptable risk for medics

THE tragic death of a young father of six is to be subject to three separate investigations -- by the gardai, the Health Service Executive and the Health and Safety Authority. A union colleague of the paramedic who fell from a moving ambulance believes he knows what one of the findings will be.

He says that the HSE was warned about problems with ambulance doors locking three years ago after a paramedic fell from an ambulance in circumstances similar to those in which Simon Sexton died on Thursday.

Indeed, there have been many warnings about the ambulance service for years. And bizarre incidents, too.
