Top-up scandals must never be repeated
The once highly respected Central Remedial Clinic (CRC) is reeling from a series of scandals relating to how it paid some of its most senior staff. On foot of those scandals, the CRC is left with no board, no CEO and has been taken over by the HSE by way of an interim administrator.
Yesterday's explosive revelations at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that a secret pension fund of almost €750,000 was created for Paul Kiely, the former CEO of the CRC, are the most damning to emerge to date.
Talk of possible garda involvement in relation to what has gone on at CRC during yesterday's committee hearing only served to emphasise how serious the situation is.
