The burden of peace

IT IS time for the key players in the North to be disabused of the notion that all they have to do is stage a major sulk and either Gordon Brown or Brian Cowen will hop into the nearest telephone box and emerge as super heroes to retrieve the situation at the 11th hour.
Both the DUP and Sinn Fein carry the responsibilities that go with office, and these are broader and more pressing than those of their parties.
Any wonder, therefore, that patience with the increasingly tedious business of staging elaborate set-pieces on points of manufactured principle, and at the risk of bringing the whole process crashing down around their ears, is wearing thin.
