The big challenges of an economic recovery
What could possibly go wrong? After eight years of dark recession, and four of this Government relentlessly dishing out bitter medicine, we have finally reached a turn on the long road of economic despondency.
Many of us are only beginning to believe the deluge of positive news. We can rely on 4pc economic growth this year, perhaps 5pc next year, and there is an increasingly likelihood of what economists class as "full employment" in little more than two years.
Tomorrow, the Government will give us its version of the good news. Today, the Public Expenditure Minister, Brendan Howlin, has told the Irish Independent it's time for the Government to "start spending again".
