Some straight talking on the banks at last

THE Central Bank's bracing criticism of the banking sector was strong stuff.

Finally, we heard some straight talking from a regulator who didn't mince her words. Fiona Muldoon offered a scathing analysis of the banks' failure to get to grips with the consequences of their bad lending decisions.

Ms Muldoon's basic thesis is that the banks have not got beyond a policy of "wait and see".
