Shame on our self-serving TDs
NOBODY will feel any great surprise on learning the latest public satisfaction rating for Brian Cowen. Today's Red C poll in the 'Irish Sun' puts it at a wretched 11pc. That merely confirms the overwhelming evidence that he has lost the confidence of the people.
And nobody need feel any great sympathy. Overwhelmingly, the Taoiseach's troubles are self-inflicted.
They began during his tenure as Minister for Finance. They turned into a full-scale crisis early in his premiership. Since then, the mood at home has deteriorated along with the economy. Abroad, we have become the subject of attention ranging from commiseration to fear that an Irish default could bring down the European currency.
