Reality dawns for ESB workers

The reaction of the ESB trade unions to Energy Minister Pat Rabbitte's plans to sell a minority stake in its electricity generation and distribution businesses was understandable, if predictable.
Already UNITE, the largest ESB trade union, has pledged to ballot its members on industrial action, while SIPTU general president Jack O'Connor has also attacked Mr Rabbitte's proposals.
While it is still early days, it's difficult to resist the fear that the ESB trade unions are still not fully attuned to the new economic realities.
