Public fury over political pensions
As public anger at the lavish pensions paid to former ministers continues to mount, it is high time that former ministers who have other jobs give up their ministerial pensions.
While many of the former ministers receiving pensions are well past the normal retirement age, some of them are still young enough to hold down jobs.
These include former Taoiseach John Bruton who, as well as receiving an annual pension of almost €142,000, is also the well-paid chairman of lobby group IFSC Ireland. Former Tanaiste Dick Spring, who is paid an annual pension of more than €121,000 is also a director of AIB and of financial services group Fexco.
