Plenty to ponder this Easter break
THE Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Diarmuid Martin, provided an eloquent and utterly pertinent Easter homily which drew on the message of Christ to address the grim, corporeal realities of today.
"This has been a difficult year," he said. "We have seen how damaging failure of integrity and authenticity are to the Body of Christ. Shameful abuse took place within the Church of Christ."
A difficult year indeed. The church, from here to the Vatican, has been under critical scrutiny since Cardinal Sean Brady admitted his involvement in secret meetings at which young victims of one of the church's most heinous abusers, Brendan Smyth, were sworn to silence under threat of excommunication and eternal damnation.
