Plea for return of our precious relic

The thieves who stole two antique crosses from Holy Cross Abbey almost certainly knew nothing of their history or their importance.
As the local parish priest, Fr Tom Breen, remarked, it is not likely that they knew the significance of the objects they took. Nor is it likely that they acted on behalf of some Bond-movie-type villain who sits in an Alpine or underwater chamber gloating over the great works of art which he has illegally acquired.
No doubt people exist who covet objects which others cannot possess or even view. But on this occasion the thieves probably stole the crosses in order to sell the precious metals in them for melting down.
