Painful step, but it must be taken
POLITICIANS usually spend more time and energy tiptoeing around problems than trying to solve them. Yesterday was a red-letter day because the Government finally faced the nation's difficulties and began solving them.
The four-year austerity plan is only one part of a much bigger challenge faced by the State but it does present a more convincing, if partial, solution to our fiscal crisis.
It is true we still have a banking crisis and a mountain of debt but sometimes problems must be broken down into their component parts before they can be resolved.
