Only way to beat price hikers is to go elsewhere

MANY of us have had to learn a lot more about money management over the last five years as we have literally had to do more with a lot less. But today our consumer correspondent brings the staggering news that some grocery prices have increased by almost one sixth during the past year. The Central Statistics Office (CSO) tells us that the current rate of inflation is just one half of one per cent.

Yet a new comprehensive study, which we detail today, shows that grocery prices have gone up by 5pc in the last 12 months. And all signs are that the price spiral will continue.

Milk prices have also increased. And this and dairy product prices generally have a big impact on Irish shoppers who traditionally favour these home-produced products.
