Objections prove Shatter is right

The vehement objections from the Law Society to his plans to regulate the legal profession, almost certainly indicate that Justice Minister Alan Shatter has got it right.
With Irish legal costs being among the highest in the developed world, we can no longer afford the luxury of a legal system and twin legal professions encrusted by centuries of anti-competitive practices.
If the minister gets his way the Legal Services Regulatory Authority, which will regulate solicitors and barristers, will have a lay majority with the chairman being appointed by the Minister for Justice.
