Now make this jobs plan work
THE Taoiseach yesterday launched a plan to create 300,000 new jobs over the next five years. Coming as it does, after three years of rapidly rising unemployment, and 22 months after the Government--published 'Building Ireland's Smart Economy -- A Framework for Sustainable Economic Renewal', the initiative is not before its time.
But at least we now have a firm declaration of intent, a blueprint by which we can measure progress -- or lack of it -- towards getting people back to work.
The plan, 'Trading and Investing in a Smart Economy', aims to create jobs in manufacturing, tourism and trading services, as well as boosting exports from Irish-owned companies.
