Boastful, brash, and with bullet-proof confidence, Donald Trump has defied all expectations to still be riding so high as judgment day arrives in today's US election.

It has been the most bitter and toxic campaign in recent history. The concern is that whoever wins, America has been bruised and democracy dented, rather than served, by a crude, rude and deeply cynical contest.

Reality TV creation Mr Trump survived the media rodeo better than anyone could have bet. Hillary Clinton ought to have been able to unseat him early on, given her immense political and diplomatic pedigree.
