Much more than a race festival
Some things never change and the Galway Festival is one. It might no longer have the mighty munificence of the infamous tent but it still, somehow, manages to raise spirits and generate enthusiasm.
Year after year it draws thousands of punters and tens of thousands who simply go there for the glamour and glitz of a truly Irish sporting spectacular.
It is certainly more than a race meeting. It is almost a pilgrimage, and in these grim times a reaffirmation that all is not lost, that for a few glorious days there is room for fun and to take a little gamble with the vagaries of form and tips.
