Mick the man for all seasons

His was the 'everyman' face of Ireland for at least two decades. So many Sunday nights revolved around the family life and times in which his tousled hair, rugged, warm face and distinctive voice played such a central role.

Was ever an actor more beautifully cast than Mick Lally as the man of the land and the people in the rural soap operas of the time? When 'Bracken' made way for 'Glenroe' he moved seamlessly into another realm.

And we followed him in our droves. That was testament to his genius. We lapped it up and betimes laughed at the ordinariness of it all. And making it unmissable was the on-screen chemistry in which Mick (as Miley) simply revelled.
