Long queues to quit sinking ship

There was a time when public service was the most noble calling of all. It says much about political life that these days ministers are more likely to run from -- rather than for -- high office.
The news that Defence Minister Tony Killeen will throw in the towel along with Michael Woods, Ministers Dermot Ahern and Noel Dempsey and Minister of State for Housing Michael Finneran, is hardly the signal of fire in the belly for the coming fray from the Soldiers of Destiny, that the party faithful might have hoped for.
Considering that so far 11 Fianna Fail TDs have already jumped ship, party morale must be commensurate with dismal opinion poll ratings.
