Lessons from Meadhbh saga

Meadhbh McGivern, the 14-year-old at the centre of last summer's liver transplant saga, could be home in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, within a week.

The whole country will share the joy of her family and the feeling that "all's well that ends well".

It could have been drastically different. When her family was first notified that King's Hospital, London, had a suitable organ for the transplant, the good news was immediately followed by a whole chapter of mischances, which ended with the cancellation of her operation.
