Keen demand for new politics
After three years of a crippling economic slump, lessons are finally being learned. We know now that a country's wealth cannot be based on just one asset -- property.
We also know now tax cuts and spending hikes cannot be granted unless the economy can afford them. And we all know wages here cannot be allowed to get ahead of international and European norms. But other lessons need to be learned too. The key one is that our entire political system is deeply dysfunctional and needs radical reform. With this once-in-a-generation crisis still lingering, now is the chance to do the reforming.
According to poll results published today in this newspaper, the Irish people are ready and willing to see the system change.
