Justice for Shane

The guilty verdict and life sentence imposed on Barry Doyle for the murder of Limerick rugby player Shane Geoghegan in November 2008 doesn't even begin to compensate the victim's family for the enormous wrong that was done to them. Mr Geoghegan, apparently the subject of mistaken identity, was a completely innocent victim of Limerick's vicious gang wars.

However, while it may be of little consolation to his unfortunate family, Mr Geoghegan's murder finally provided the impetus to tackle Limerick's long-running criminal feuds.

As a result, even before yesterday's verdict, several of the major figures had already been arrested, charged and convicted.
