It's not the end, but green shoots visible
THE economy is finally showing signs of returning to life after years of decline and stagnation.
Yesterday, the Central Statistics Office published its best estimate for growth over the autumn while also announcing that it had been a tad too pessimistic about the first half of the year. The good news is that the economy has grown over the the first three quarters of the year – the first time it has recorded sustained growth in four years.
The return to growth is far from spectacular but it is encouraging to see that several areas of the economy are gradually improving in unison. We no longer have to look to exports alone for glimmers of hope. The figures show consumers are creeping back into the shops and finally spending again.
