Irish Rail decision is a little off-track

Iarnrod Eireann has added four extra daily services, at a cost of nearly €20,000 a day, to the loss-making route, 84km long, between Limerick and Ballybrophy.
Coincidentally or otherwise, the junior minister with responsibility for public transport, Alan Kelly, lives nearby. The Department of Transport says that he passed on "local concerns" about levels of services on the line.
Last Wednesday his boss, Transport Minister Leo Varadkar, launched a report, known as the AECOM/Goodbody report, which expressed concerns of a different kind.
