Harney attack silly and nasty
EVERYBODY has a right to protest and demonstrate. Nobody has a right to assault public figures, or for that matter ordinary persons, of whatever class or background, going peacefully about their business.
And the paint-throwing incident at Cherry Orchard yesterday was singularly unpleasant. The culprit is an elected councillor. She was present at a sod-turning ceremony as an invited guest. After she threw paint over Health Minister Mary Harney, not only did she display no contrition but she tried to justify an action which was as silly as it was nasty.
By contrast, Ms Harney calmly went about completing the ceremony, wielding a shovel with her paint-stained hands. That's how it's done.
