Golden opportunity has been squandered

A week ago, the implementation of a no-fly zone over Libya would potentially have tipped the balance against the country's long-serving dictator, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.
At that point, the momentum appeared to still be with the rebellion that started in the city of Benghazi.
The cranking up of the pressure on Gaddafi would also have revealed cracks in his administration with the possibility of desertions from his inner circle or from influential positions in the military.
