Funding key to education

Ireland's education system has much to recommend it. The multi-nationals flowing to our shores are attracted, among other things, to the quantity and flexibility of our graduates. Not only at home, Irish graduates are appreciated, and rise to the top, all over the world.

We might boast that we do well for a small country. There is never a good time for complacency, and least of all now when Ireland needs opportunities and high-skilled jobs if it is to honour its promise to the new and coming generations of graduates of a choice of staying at home to earn a living.

Ireland is competing in a global world. Investment, jobs, students all follow the best prospects. Global university rankings may not be perfect but they give an at-a-glance guide to where one might start looking.

INM has taken the decision to remove the commenting facility on its online platform Independent.ie to minimise the legal risk to our business that arises from Ireland's draconian libel awards system.

We continue to look forward to receiving comments through direct email contact or via social media, some of which may still be featured on the website Independent.ie
