THE record of excess and waste at the FAS training authority was bad enough, but now we discover that much of it occurred under the auspices of an educational programme which was utterly useless.
Throwing away taxpayers' money on lavish dining, chauffeur-driven limousines and first class transatlantic flights is one thing, but doing so under the delusion that it was helping to advance the careers of young Irish scientists was despicable.
FAS executives liked to boast that the Science Challenge programme would lead to top-flight technological careers but it had more to do with travel and entertainment.
